Brand Ambassador - Marcin Stachurski
Marcin has built a reputation as an understanding and forward thinking rider with a clear vision of competition and horse development.
What do you like to be called? What is your nickname?!
What got you in to riding?
Friends locally growing up in Poland rode, I started when I was 10 years old.
Do you remember the first event you entered? What / where was it?
It was a local show in Poland, show jumping 1 meter. Warsaw
Can you tell us a funny story from when you’ve been competing?
Traveling to an event in Poland we thought it’s a bit quiet in the lorry, then realised that the groom had not loaded the horse, he thought we had loaded it, had to turn lorry around and drive back 50 miles, just made the show in time.
Why have you chosen your particular discipline?
I loved showjumping but I was in awe of Dressage riders and the control over their horses. Once I had my first ride on a dressage horse with a lesson from a British Dressage rider I was hooked and never looked back; that was over 5 years ago.
Who is your favourite horse and why does he/she stand out to you?
My real favourite is Vito, our 4 year old gelding, he is a real super star in the making but its his character that makes me love him, he is cheeky and loving; always licking and nudging you. His work ethic is great, he loves to work and always likes to show off in the ring.
What’s your most memorable win (with that horse)?
Vito again, first time out ever at a BD competition and he won his group and class comfortably with over 75%.
What goes through your mind before, during - and after - a competition?
Before its all about the preparation and making sure my horses are relaxed and moving well; during my mind is on just trying to stay focused and enjoy our time in the arena; after the event, prosecco is usually on my mind as we are all glad its over.
What’s the best advice you have been given to help you prepare before an event?
Prepare your horse and don’t over work it before the test and just relax, enjoy and do best you can.
What daily routine do you follow to ensure your horse is in always on top form?
Well a good quality bed and clean stable for all our horses, we want them to be comfortable; all our horses are on Bed Down .
Always make sure I let the horse be a horse, they always go out in the field even if it’s only for few hours that time is for them to clear their heads so when is time for work they are in nice and relaxed state of mind.
I always spend at least 5 minutes before tacking up just brushing and gently stoking and talking to our horses; I want them to feel relaxed and psychologically connected to me.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to compete in your discipline?
Time is your friend! Take lots of it with your horse and don’t worry if you have the odd set back; its perfectly normal.
Why did you choose to be a Bed-Down brand ambassador?
The bedding is a great quality and excellent value, we give our horses and livery horses the best we can to make sure they are comfortable. The bedding is very absorbent which is better for the horse’s feet. The smell is lovely and the bales are very compact but it lasts so much longer also the bedding is very well dust extracted which means no dust particles that the horses breath in.
What positive changes have you noticed in your horse since you started using Bed-Down products?
Horse’s feet are nice and dry, no problems with thrush. A particular horse with breathing problems no longer has a cough. Horses like the smell and will lie and role on the bedding.
Do you use handy bales, classic bales or both and why?!
We use both, in summer we use handy bales as its easier to top up the beds and we don’t leave half opened bales and in winter we use the classic bales to keep beds nice and big.
